Virtual Gallery Opening March 9
Went to Victoria Park Art Gallery
Drove up to Kincardine yesterday to of course see my parents but also see my work hanging, as I dropped it off and never got to see it to completion. While I was there I also took some photos as well.
New Piece
This is an 8x10, it is also the same as Boundless Time where I drew the canvas about 7 years ago and it sat in my closet. I brought it out finally painted it and modified it from 7 years ago.
Funny how things hang around for so long.
Boundless Time
This is a canvas that I have had drawn for years and just was not sure what to do with it. So there it sat in a box for about 6 or 7 years at least. I finally pulled it out and painted it.
Fine Art Furniture
This was something that I wanted to try. I wanted the look of bright primary colours. I am going to experiment further with some original table designs.
Celtic Animal Symbology
I have always been intrigued by everything Celtic, music, symbols and animal imagery. I thought that I would do a small, colourful celtic series. I chose Animal Symbology due to the influence that animals have on my life in particular dogs and my duck. There are more to this series that I am currently working on. I chose 4x4 canvas as I wanted to see it displayed as a whole, but can still be individual.
Celtic Dog
In Celtic Times, a dog was a symbol of good luck, health and loyalty. Not much different from today. I have 2 wonderful dogs in my life.
Celtic Duck
I see my duck in this painting. I rescued a baby Aylesbury duck a year ago and she is an integral part of my daily life. In Celtic times, ducks were seen as honesty, sensitive to their surroundings, graceful, and beautiful. As I have gotten to know my duck "Dudley" I realize how smart ducks really are and how much personality they have. When I originally had Dudley, according to the research on the internet, I thought she was a boy until one day Dudley started laying eggs. By this time she already knew and responded to her name, so she will forever be known as Dudley.
Celtic Griffon
This is a symbol of Duality. Part Eagle and Lion both very strong and bold animals. They were known as protectors, nobile and symbols of justice.
Celtic Wren
These birds are natural care givers which intrigued me since I am a full time RN. It symbolizes me in many ways. Wrens are considered self motivated, resourceful and have high moral values.
Celtic Symbols
I used little rocks in this pieces to symbolize the primitive times that these symbols were derived from. This is just a series of two currently. I may expand on this series down the road. I kept with the 4x4 size to stay consistent with the Celtic Animal Series.
Tree of Life
Trees symbolize life to me. This belief extends into all cultures across time. I have a fascination with trees not just in my art but also in my photography. I have many series of photos of trees.
I stayed consistent with the same small stones that I used in the celtic series I utilized in this piece in the earth (bottom part of the piece). It is mixed media, I also incorporated spirals out of string. If you look at most of my pieces, not all, I am fascinated by spirals and use them in many of my pieces.
Pouring of Emotions
This piece is mixed media Acrylic and Aluminum. It is just as it shows a broken heart. Everyone has experienced feeling down or broken hearted at some point in their life.
Metallic Clover
This is Acrylic with Aluminum. I thought doing a 4 leaf clover would be fun.
Dans la jardine
This piece is mixed media Acrylic and Plaster of Paris. The interesting thing about this piece is that I started out doing something totally different when I started this piece almost 2 years ago. Again, the painting sat around for months as I wasn't happy with the direction that I was heading with it. I recently pulled it out and repainted the entire thing and am much happier with my end result. Many times, I feel that working on a painting is like a relationship in many ways, it goes well sometimes and others you have just had enough. As I have a history with each piece sometimes I have a hard time parting with them.
Miniature Show at the Art Exchange Feb 2011
I entered 2 pieces in the Miniatures show this past Feb. The pieces are 3x4 each.
Les Quatre Fleurs
This piece is a larger one. It is mixed media acrylic and plaster of paris. This piece was done for last year's show. I sold this piece privately just yesterday!!!
Untitled
This one is also large (80x100cm). I was not able to come up with a title for this one. It is mixed media, string plaster of paris foil and acrylic. This hangs in my living room.
Whirlwind Vortex Series
This series consists of 3 paintings, just completed. The first one is 16x20 and is mixed media plaster and acrylic on canvas.
